Marta Privitera

Guitarist

Marta has always been interested in music, from a young age. Even though she had no inspiration from her family, she was always fascinated by ‘rock and roll’, even begging to get an electric guitar to be a rock star. She had started playing the ukulele at Sunday school when she was around 8 years old and mainly only played it at church, but after COVID struck she lost interest in the instrument. In 2021 she started to listen to Nirvana and fell in love with the idea of playing music and performing in front of an audience. Shortly after she picked up her sister’s Fender acoustic and started learning every Nirvana riff and playing “Smells Like Teen Spirit” on repeat. Later on, she got into Metallica and was fascinated by the riffs that at the time she thought were extremely heavy, also mesmerised by Kirk’s solos. After that, she bought her first electric guitar, her Jackson JS11 dinky which she still uses to this day, and started to go to lessons. Later on through the guitar, she started listening to more bands like Megadeth and Overkill, falling in love with the thrash metal genre. Nowadays she still listens to thrash metal but also a lot of death metal, especially bands like Death and Carcass, and takes a lot of inspiration from both genres.

Privitera always aspired to play in a band, ever since picking up a guitar. Her lifelong best friend (Micheal Vassallo) had also just started playing bass, and every so often they would jam together playing songs like ‘Everlong’ and previously mentioned, ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’. Later on, they started a project band with her other lifelong best friend (Ezra Grech) called Oblivion. After multiple failed attempts at finding a vocalist and going through many second guitarists, they gave up and went dormant. After a while, through guitar lessons, she met Kieron Spiteri who was looking for a drummer and a guitarist at the time. After multiple jam sessions at our teacher's garage, Marta had unofficially joined the band. Later on, she introduced Micheal and Ezra to Kieron and at that time the former vocalist. After one jam session, Kieron and the ex-vocalist decided to officially welcome Marta, Ezra, and Micheal into Impertex. Finally, after a while, Impertex had a full lineup. Impertex Originally started as a rock band, but after many discussions, we all decided to be a thrash band inspired by great bands like Megadeth.

After about a year, the vocalist left the band, and they were left without a vocalist. After a month of searching for a vocalist, they were fed up and decided for one of them to step up and do vocals. After many practice sessions, it was clear that Kieron was the best candidate for vocalist and he became Impertex’s frontman. To this day Impertex remains a 4-piece band, with the genre now being thrash but with black metal-inspired vocals, from bands like Bathory and Hellripper.
