Checkmate

Checkmate MT was formed in the summer of 2020, in the peak of the pandemic. The idea of the project was formed around the concept of diversity - due to the fact that the members represent four distinct generations, inspired by different musical styles from distinct eras. The band’s frontman Kevin Michaels is a well known, established singer in Malta’s rock scene and is accompanied by an electric group of professional musicians featuring Jean Carl Grech on the bass guitar, Adam Bonello shredding the lead guitar, Georgius Mifsud with his distinct and powerful riffs on the rhythm guitar and Steve Worley who rocks the band with his energetic drumming. Their debut single “Tonight” was a success as soon as it was released, and alongside their most recent singles “Standing in my Way” and “Move On”, all tracks and the respective music videos are regularly featured on the local and international radios, local mainstream TV music shows.
