Sonic Storm Parts Ways with Guitarist Miguel Ángel Sarmiento

Thrash metal band Sonic Storm has announced a major lineup change, parting ways with guitarist Miguel Ángel Sarmiento. The decision, shared in a heartfelt Facebook post on January 4, was described as “entirely amicable” and rooted in logistical challenges.

In their statement, the band wrote:

"After much thought, we have taken the difficult decision to part ways with our guitarist, Miguel Ángel Sarmiento. This is an entirely amicable split as it is mainly due to logistical reasons. Miguel has been an amazing part of our journey, bringing his unique energy to the stage and countless laughs to our rehearsals. We’re incredibly grateful for his contributions and the memories we’ve created together.

Looking ahead, we’ve decided not to seek a replacement as instead, we’ll be returning to our roots as a three-piece thrash ensemble — the way we originally envisioned this band.

We wish Miguel nothing but the best in his personal life and with his other bands. He’ll always be a part of the Sonic Storm family, and we’re excited to see what he accomplishes next.

Gracias Miguelito, ha sido un placer!”

Miguel Ángel Sarmiento also shared his thoughts on the transition via his own Facebook page, expressing pride in his time with Sonic Storm and gratitude toward the band and its fans.

"As some of you may know, Sonic Storm and I have parted ways. I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved together and grateful for all the support that you guys have given me and the band. I am in eternal gratitude with Sonic Storm members, Paul, Karl, and Frans, who have been incredibly supportive in every aspect of my life.

See you in the mosh, next time I’ll be joining you guys in the pit. Thank you, Sonic Storm!

The decision marks a return to Sonic Storm’s origins as a three-piece thrash outfit, a direction the band says reflects their original vision. While the split brings the end of an era, both parties emphasized the enduring camaraderie and mutual respect between them.

Fans of Sonic Storm and Miguel Ángel Sarmiento can look forward to seeing both continue to thrive, with the band evolving as a trio and Miguel remaining active in his musical pursuits. As Sonic Storm put it, Miguel will “always be a part of the Sonic Storm family.”

In the meantime, both Sonic Storm and Miguel's other band, No Humano, have been announced to perform alongside Damaged & Co at their annual event, "Damaged & Co Present: Cirque Du Carnival," taking place at The Garage on Saturday, February 22nd.

We are forever indebted to Herman for his contribution to the band over the past 10 years.

Looking forward to a jam-packed 2025 full of Action! Stay tuned for the release of our latest single in the coming weeks..."

The announcement follows the release of Myles’ latest single, Lil Din l-Art Helwa, a collaboration with DJ Mac and produced by Simon Deguara. Myles steps into the role previously held by Herman, whose decade-long contributions were celebrated in the band’s post. Having regularly performed with Kill The Action over the past year, Myles is no stranger to the group’s sound and energy, making the transition seamless and highly anticipated by fans.
