Rock the South 2025 Returns for Its 12th Blazing Edition This May



Rock the South Malta is set to roar back to Zion in Marsascala for its electrifying 12th edition on May 2, 3, and 4, 2025, powered by Converse and Urban Jungle. Known as Malta’s premier alternative music festival, Rock the South promises another unforgettable weekend with an eclectic mix of local and international acts, two main stages, and a pulsating after-hours Silent Disco powered by White Noise Malta.

Kicking off on Friday, May 2, doors open at 7 PM with a lineup featuring Brodu, Djun, JOON accompanied by her full band, Italy’s vibrant indie group cólgate, and the second-ever performance by alternative rock supergroup Motherknives. This rising outfit blends 90s underground vibes with 80s goth, heavy rock riffs, pop sensibilities, and trip-hop atmosphere. The band is fronted by Francesca

Mercieca on vocals, synth, and percussion, alongside Tony Bartolo on guitar, Steve Shaw on bass, and Quentin Falzon on drums. Friday night concludes with a nostalgic twist at "Lithium VS DJ Bob Presents Indie Sleaze."

Beangrowers

Saturday, May 3, opens at 6 PM and continues the sonic journey with performances from The Violent Violets, Dolls for Idols, Beangrowers, Beesqueeze, Eyes to Argus, German surf-punk rockers Bikini Beach, Shostakovich’s Nightmare, and Bark Bark Disco. The night also features a live session from Radju ĦAJ, promising a dose of eccentric energy and underground flair.

Sunday, May 4, starts early at 2 PM and is headlined by the legendary Xtruppaw, making their long-awaited Rock the South debut. The show coincides with the band’s 20th anniversary, making it a landmark moment for Maltese music fans. The band reunited in 2024 after a five year hiatus. The lineup also includes ClubMurder, BNI, Haine, BILA, Dalam, The Ranch, The Velts, Ara Lil Yoon (DE), Double Standard, Hemplifier, Ferret, Five Years From Now, and From Sheep to Wolves. Once the bands wrap up, Michael Bugeja will keep the vibe alive by DJing the Sunday after-hours.


Festival artwork is created by local visual artist Samwel Mallia from Eyes To Argus, adding a bold aesthetic layer to the event’s already immersive atmosphere.


Early bird tickets have already sold out, but weekend passes and single-day tickets are currently available from here.
